What is PM Kisan Yojana?
PM-KISAN is a Central Sector Scheme funded by the Government of India. It became operational from December 1, 2018 and was formally launched in February 2019. Its purpose is to provide income support to eligible landholding farmer families.
Under the scheme, ₹6,000 is transferred annually in three equal installments. This means an eligible beneficiary generally receives ₹2,000 in each installment directly into the Aadhaar-seeded bank account through DBT.
For the purpose of the scheme, the family is defined as husband, wife and minor children. State Governments and Union Territory administrations identify eligible farmer families according to the scheme guidelines.
PM Kisan Yojana ₹6,000 Benefit
Eligible farmer families receive a total financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year.
The amount is not normally paid as a single ₹6,000 payment. Instead, it is divided into three installments:
- First installment – ₹2,000
- Second installment – ₹2,000
- Third installment – ₹2,000
- Total annual benefit – ₹6,000
The money is transferred directly into the beneficiary’s bank account, reducing the need for intermediaries.
The scheme has reached a very large number of farmers. According to the government, more than ₹4.27 lakh crore had been disbursed through 22 installments by March 2026.
PM Kisan 23rd Installment 2026
The official PM-KISAN portal currently states that the 23rd installment was released on June 20, 2026, from Tarakeswar, Hooghly, West Bengal.
Before that, the 22nd installment was released on March 13, 2026. More than ₹18,640 crore was transferred to approximately 9.32 crore farmers under that installment.
Farmers who want to know whether their installment has been credited can use the Know Your Status facility on the official PM-KISAN portal.
PM Kisan Yojana Eligibility
Cultivable landholding is a primary eligibility criterion under PM-KISAN, subject to the exclusions specified in the scheme guidelines.
The benefit is intended for eligible landholding farmer families. However, not every person owning or associated with agricultural land automatically qualifies. Certain categories with higher economic status and other specified cases are excluded under the scheme rules.
The official portal has also highlighted suspected cases requiring verification, including certain instances where land ownership was acquired after February 1, 2019 or where more than one member of the same family may be receiving the benefit. Payments in such cases can be withheld until verification is completed.
Therefore, farmers should check their individual eligibility and status through the official portal instead of assuming that land ownership alone guarantees payment.
eKYC is Mandatory for PM Kisan
One of the most important requirements for existing beneficiaries is eKYC.
The official PM-KISAN portal clearly states that eKYC is mandatory for registered farmers.
The government provides multiple ways to complete eKYC. These include OTP-based eKYC through the PM-KISAN portal or mobile app, biometric eKYC through Common Service Centres and authorised centres, and face authentication through the PM-KISAN mobile application.
Farmers should also ensure that their Aadhaar, bank account and land details meet the applicable requirements. Government information states that benefits are provided to eligible farmers whose land details are seeded on the portal, bank accounts are Aadhaar-seeded and eKYC is completed.

This facility is useful when a farmer has not received an expected installment and wants to check the current status before raising a query.
Important Points for PM Kisan Beneficiaries
Farmers should keep their Aadhaar and bank information updated and complete eKYC whenever required. They should also verify their eligibility if the portal shows a pending verification or exclusion-related issue.
Avoid relying on unofficial websites or people promising guaranteed PM-KISAN payments in exchange for money. Registration, status and official scheme information should be checked through the Government’s PM-KISAN portal.
The government has approved continuation of the scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31, so eligible farmers will continue to receive benefits subject to the scheme’s applicable rules and verification requirements.
Conclusion
PM Kisan Yojana 2026 continues to provide important income support to eligible landholding farmer families. Under PM-KISAN, beneficiaries receive ₹6,000 every year in three installments of ₹2,000 each, directly into their bank accounts.
Farmers who have not registered can check their eligibility and use the New Farmer Registration facility on the official portal. Existing beneficiaries should ensure that their eKYC, Aadhaar-linked bank account and land details are in order and use the Know Your Status option to track their payments.
